Grace Lin, Oge Mora and Yuyi Morales share their experiences as children who didn’t see people who looked like them depicted favorably or much at all in books and media. We ask them what that invisibility cost them and how they came to create the images they wish they’d had as children.

We live in deeply stressful times. COVID. Racial tension and violence. Political polarization. Dire economic straits. Happily, there are strategies and practices we can use to lessen the effects of racial stress on our bodies and minds and on our parenting.

Effective guidance and modeling from educators - and from all the adults in the lives of children - is necessary to help kids overcome the odds of developing racial biases and anxieties and be more prepared to act in ways that help dismantle structural racism.
