The EmbraceRace team gathered for our annual retreat in Washington, D.C. recently. And guess what? We finally got to meet EmbraceRace culinary ambassador Chef Danny Lee in person.

Chef Danny first reached out to us in 2021 to say that he was organizing a fundraising dinner at his restaurant Anju. He wrote: “We strongly feel that everyone needs to play their part in advocating for racial awareness, especially in these troubling times, so we want to donate all proceeds from this dinner to your amazing group!” We said, “OK?!” and Danny has not stopped. He, his partners, and other celebrity chefs in his circle have been coming together to cook and support EmbraceRace ever since, including the pop-up, karaoke fundraiser he hosted for us the night we met. Check out the highlights reel (which includes Danny doing a karaoke-duet to “The Shallows”).

THANK YOU to Chefs Rock Harper, Angel Barreto, and Elias Taddesse for fantastic dishes and above-and-beyond their support, to the amazing staff at Anju and to the many others who welcomed us and highlighted our work. Shout out to Liz Kleinrock - an educator/activist we deeply admire - for coming out to meet our team. Danny, we’ll stay for “Purple Rain” next time!
