Behind the Scenes: Developing a Caregiver Toolkit for Asian American Children
EmbraceRace is excited to share that we've been working in close partnership with researchers from the Asian American Families Study Collaborative (AAFSC) to develop resources specifically for families raising Asian American children.
This collection of resources draws on insights, questions, and reflections from interviews with diverse Asian American parents and kids all around the U.S. to help you raise Asian American kids who are connected to and proud of their heritage, are inclusive, empathetic, and antiracist, and can handle negative racial experiences in a healthy way.
We are grateful to the research team for their partnership, including contributions from Amaesha Durazi, Anna Kimura, Dr. J. Abigail Saavedra, and members of the AAFSC, including: Drs. Rashmita Mistry (University of California, Los Angeles), Richard Lee (University of Minnesota Twin Cities), Gabriela Livas Stein (The University of Texas at Austin), Hyung Chol (Brandon) Yoo (Arizona State University), Charissa Cheah (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), Virginia Huynh (California State University, Northridge), Frances Lobo (University of Texas at Austin), and doctoral students, Stephanie Nguyen, Claire Min, and Puja Patel.
This toolkit is part of a broader initiative to create identity-specific resources for families, with the Asian American toolkit being our first due to the invaluable collaboration with these esteemed researchers. We can't wait to share this Caregiver Toolkit for Asian American Children with our community, soon!
