Allison Brown is executive director of the Communities for Just Schools Fund, a national donor collaborative providing financial support to local groups across the country organizing advocates for young people. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Howard University and her law degree at Harvard University. After working as a law clerk and then as an associate at Crowell & Moring in Washington, she joined the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department where she investigated and prosecuted cases aimed at ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students and challenging the “school-to-prison pipeline.” After six years at the Justice Department, Brown left to open her own consulting firm and then joined the Open Society Foundations in 2013, where she was responsible for that philanthropy’s efforts to eliminate racial profiling and disproportionate student discipline.
